Tonight’s drill took us back to the Amherst Training Tower for a live burn evolution alongside our neighbors from North Bailey. These live burns are a cornerstone of our training calendar because they offer a real-world environment to hone a wide range of skills under heat and pressure.

This evening’s focus was on hoseline advancement, but as always, there was something valuable for everyone on scene. Whether you were on the nozzle or supporting the crew, every role contributed to the success of the drill and offered important learning opportunities.

🚒 Three of our members got hands-on experience running the pump panel, a critical skill for effective fireground operations.
🚪 We added a new element to some evolutions: forcible entry, practicing techniques to breach an exterior door under realistic conditions.
💦 Our newest members stepped up, getting time flowing water and throwing ladders, helping build confidence and familiarity with essential tools.

📻 We put a strong emphasis on radio communication throughout the night. Crews practiced clear, concise transmissions and proper reporting as they advanced hoselines, located the fire, and coordinated tactics. Good radio discipline is critical for both efficiency and safety, and tonight gave us a solid chance to sharpen those skills in a live-fire environment.

Big thanks to everyone who participated and to North Bailey for joining us. It’s always great working together and pushing each other to be better, safer, and more effective firefighters. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒
