This Week’s Drill: Live Burn Training
This week, we teamed up with North Bailey Fire for a live burn at Amherst Towers. Training in a burn building provides invaluable experience by simulating real structure fire conditions—intense heat, thick smoke, and zero visibility—all in a controlled environment.
Firefighters practiced advancing hose lines, conducting victim searches, locating the fire room, and extinguishing the fire. These scenarios sharpen critical skills like staying oriented, maintaining crew contact, controlling breathing, and relying on every sense.
Live burns are a vital part of our ongoing training—ensuring we’re always ready for the real thing.
